Charlo finally stripped of WBC middleweight title, Adames elevated

After more than 1,000 days without a title defense, the WBC has finally stripped Jermall Charlo of his middleweight title on the heels of Charlo’s arrest for DWI.

The WBC has provided and will continue to do as much as possible to support Jermall Charlo during his difficult times with regards to Mental Wellness.

The WBC will closely work with PBC in securing the best course of action to attend to Jermall needs at this moment in time.

After a thorough evaluation of the situation and understanding of the facts and times the WBC may rank Jermall in Super Middle weight.

Interim champion (and birthday boy) Carlos Adames (23-1, 18 KO), who had been waiting on the WBC to order a title consolidation since stopping Juan Macias Montiel in October 2022, has been elevated to full titlist. “Bronco” has been vocal about his struggles to land a fight, as other sanctioning bodies generally don’t accept interim titles for unification and planned opponent Nathan Heaney allegedly declined to sign the contract.

Proper hardware should help his cause, though his ongoing Twitter spat with WBO/IBF champ Janibek Alimkhanuly doesn’t seem like anything that’ll bear fruit. A fight with WBA champ Erislandy Lara could be feasible, though, as both fight under the PBC banner.
