Cruz and Romero drew in Aguascaliente

In a thrilling match that captivated fans, Mexican boxer Erika “Dinamita” Cruz maintained her World Boxing Association super bantamweight title in a draw against Argentina’s Nazarena “Capricho” Romero at the Palenque de Feria in Aguascalientes, Mexico over the weekend.

Both fighters showcased their skills in an intense battle, with moments of brilliance from each contender. The Argentinian challenger pushed the champion to her limits, setting the pace for an exciting exchange between the two fighters.

Erika Cruz, who claimed the title last November in a bout against Mayerlin Rivas, successfully defended her crown for the first time. This victory marked her second championship after previously competing in the featherweight division until February of last year.

Meanwhile, “Capricho” had previously held the interim title before challenging Cruz in Mexico, having previously faced Rivas in Buenos Aires.

The judges’ final scorecards reflected a close competition, with one judge favoring Argentina (97-93), another scoring in favor of Cruz (97-93), and a final score of 95-95 resulting in a draw.

Despite the draw, “Dinamita” Cruz retains her title and improves her record to 17 wins (including 4 knockouts), 2 losses, and 1 draw. Romero remains undefeated with 13 wins (7 by knockout) and 2 draws.
