Garcia arrested for felony vandalism

Ryan Garcia was taken into custody yesterday following an incident that caused around $15,000 in damages at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, according to various reports.

Reportedly, a family member of Garcia (25-1, 20 KO) had called the police the week before for a welfare check. Although nothing came of it and the police left without any issues, TMZ suggests that Garcia later started acting out, leading the hotel to stop serving him alcohol.

It seems that alcohol played a role in the recent events as well, with Garcia’s attorney informing ESPN that the boxer may also face charges of public intoxication.

Garcia had exhibited concerning behavior leading up to his fight with Devin Haney in April, including missing weight by more than three pounds. Despite winning the fight with three knockdowns, he later tested positive for ostarine, a banned substance that he claims was due to a contaminated supplement.

Additionally, it was reported by both TMZ and Garcia’s lawyer that Garcia’s mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

Under California law, felony vandalism is defined as causing damage exceeding $400. While the maximum penalties include up to three years in state prison and/or fines of up to $50,000, it is unlikely that they will be enforced in this case.
