Matias vs. Paro: The Puerto Rican Powerhouse’s Homecoming Title Defense

Matias vs. Paro: The Puerto Rican Powerhouse’s Homecoming Title Defense

Less than two weeks from now, on June 15th, IBF light welterweight champion Subriel Matias will put his title on the line against the undefeated Liam Paro. The fight will take place at the Coliseo Juan Aubin Cruz Abreu in Manati, Puerto Rico and will be broadcast live on DAZN.

Matias, who boasts a record of 20 wins and 1 loss, all by knockout, recently signed with promoter Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom. He will be making his second defense of his IBF 140-lb title against the unbeaten Paro, who holds a record of 24 wins with 15 knockouts.

Paro, hailing from Australia, is also signed with Hearn and is coming off a sixth-round knockout victory over former top prospect Montana Love. While Paro has looked impressive against his previous opponents, he has yet to face someone with the toughness and power of Matias.

The undercard for the event features exciting matchups including Angel Fierro vs. Alfredo Santiago and Jeyvier Cintron vs. Carlos Mujica. Paro, a southpaw, will rely on his powerful left hand to challenge Matias, especially in the early rounds where he may have an opportunity to secure a stoppage.

However, if Paro fails to make an impact in the first six rounds, he could be in trouble as Matias is known for his relentless pressure and power punching. This fight could potentially end early due to Matias’ relentless attack.

For Matias, this fight is a stepping stone towards bigger opportunities against top fighters like Devin Haney, Isaac Cruz, Jack Catterall, and Teofimo Lopez. Recently, Matias avenged his only career defeat against Petros Ananyan with a ninth-round stoppage.

With Matias’ power and aggression, Paro will face a tough challenge on June 15th. While Paro has shown promise in recent fights, he will need to bring his A-game to overcome the relentless onslaught of Matias.
