Ryan Garcia suspended one year, Haney win overturned

Ryan Garcia has received a one-year suspension from the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) and will have to relinquish $1 million to Golden Boy Promotions, in addition to a $10,000 fine from the NYSAC.

The decision comes after Garcia’s victory over Devin Haney on April 20 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center was invalidated, changing his record to 24-1 (20 KO) and restoring Haney’s record to 31-0 (15 KO).

Following the fight, Garcia failed his drug test and incurred penalties for missing weight and dropping Haney three times during the match. Despite his denial of intentionally using prohibited substances, Garcia faces consequences of fines, suspension, and financial loss.

The suspension is expected to last until April 2025, barring Garcia from competing this year. While there is a possibility of him fighting elsewhere, it is unlikely as different athletic commissions typically coordinate in such situations to avoid conflicts.
