Vasiliy Lomachenko stops George Kambosos to win IBF belt

Vasiliy Lomachenko put an end to George Kambosos Jr’s hopes by knocking him down twice in the 11th round, prompting Kambosos’ corner to throw in the towel and giving Lomachenko a TKO victory as well as the IBF lightweight title.

Throughout the fight, Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KO) maintained control, leaving Kambosos (21-3, 10 KO) to rely on sheer determination to survive. From the outset, Kambosos struggled to solve the puzzle posed by Lomachenko.

With a devastating body shot, Lomachenko sent Kambosos to the canvas for the first time. He followed up with a flurry of powerful body shots, leading to Kambosos going down again, resulting in his corner throwing in the towel.

At 36 years old, Lomachenko now has a variety of options for future fights, including potential matchups with WBC titleholder Shakur Stevenson and the winner of the upcoming Emanuel Navarrete vs Denys Berinchyk bout for the WBO belt.

Meanwhile, Gervonta “Tank” Davis has expressed interest in facing Lomachenko after his fight with Frank Martin, but that match-up seems less likely to happen. Kambosos, on the other hand, has now suffered three losses in his last four fights, with even his one win against Maxi Hughes last year being controversial.

Aside from the main event, the undercard featured notable bouts, including Cherneka Johnson’s victory over Nina Hughes and Pedro Guevara’s upset win against Andrew Moloney. Johnson claimed the WBA 118 lb belt, while Guevara secured the interim WBC title at 115 lbs.
