Vergil Ortiz vs Serhii Bohachuk fight expected for Aug. 10

Vergil Ortiz Jr is set to make his return in August, with Serhii Bohachuk rumored to be his next opponent, according to Mike Coppinger of ESPN.com.

Originally scheduled to face Tim Tszyu on the Aug. 3 Riyadh Season pay-per-view in Los Angeles, Ortiz vs Bohachuk will now take place on Aug. 10 in Las Vegas, separate from the Terence Crawford-led card.

Top Rank and ESPN also have Luis Alberto Lopez vs Angelo Leo lined up for the same date, providing some competition for viewers.

After not fighting at all in 2023 due to health issues, the 26-year-old Ortiz (21-0, 21 KO) returned this year with impressive victories over Fredrick Lawson and Thomas Dulorme.

Having moved up to the 154 lb division, Ortiz has shown his strength despite occasionally surpassing the contract weight limit.

Bohachuk, a 29-year-old from Ukraine with a record of 24-1, 23 KO, is known for his power and should make for an exciting match against Ortiz. Despite a setback against Brandon Adams in 2021, Bohachuk has proven himself capable on smaller shows promoted by Tom Loeffler, and most recently secured a victory over Brian Mendoza on a PBC show in March.
