Cruz defends her WBA crown at home against Romero

Erika Cruz is set to defend her WBA super bantamweight title against Nazarena Romero in Aguascalientes, Mexico this Saturday. The reigning champion will be fighting in front of her home crowd for the first time since winning the title last November by defeating Mayerlin Rivas in Los Angeles.

Having previously held the WBA featherweight title, Cruz dropped down a division and reclaimed championship glory at 122 pounds. Known for her aggressive, southpaw fighting style, Cruz has put on some of the most exciting women’s fights in recent memory, including an epic battle with Amanda Serrano in 2023.

Romero, the mandatory challenger, faced Rivas in a world title bout last June, ending in a draw after a cut prevented the fight from continuing. Now, Romero gets another shot at the title, this time on hostile territory.

Cruz boasts a record of 17 wins, 2 losses, and 3 knockouts, while Romero enters the ring with 13 wins, no losses, 1 draw, and 7 knockouts. It promises to be a thrilling showdown between two talented fighters vying for supremacy in the super bantamweight division.
